Hi Everyone..

As you can see I am currently working on a new design for the Blog. I have noticed that many of the Utterly posts were not showing. It seems that utters.com is no longer available so those posts are no longer there. Lesson learned. While making my videos, blogs, and live Streams available everywhere reaches a large number of people, it can also have an adverse effect when a site goes down.

So I will try to be more focused with what I do. Primarily you will find me on My Youtube Vlogs, The Cafe Zen site, Blogger & one of the streaming sites ( Stickam, blogtv, ustream ). I haven't really decided on a streaming site yet. But I will keep you posted.

I hope all those wishing to keep in touch and informed will find these changes helpful & I would love to hear your feedback.

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday. Mine was great with family stopping by turkey, ham, chicken pot pies & yes...Deviled Eggs ( ya gotta have Deviled Eggs! ). New Years, I spent with Mom and then with many many online friends at Stickam. It was a perfect start to the year.

I don't do the resolution thing as a rule. Instead a do a re-evaluation of my progress toward my goals. That's what I did this new year as well. But honestly, it's feeling like a resolution! haha! You will notice allot of changes for 2008. I have been busy adding domains, blogs, podcasts, radio shows and more.

I have made some changes to the Balancing Act Blog as well. You no longer need to type that long URL "http://abalancingact.blogspot.com". Since this is my hub for all things "Zen", I have now acquired the domain "http://ZenArcher.net". It's easy to type and more importantly easy to remember! One of my favorite changes is the ability to subscribe via e-mail. Now you don't need to run over to check the site only to find there isn't anything new. Now, each time there is a change to the Blog, you can get a E-mail with a brief "snippet" of the changes. I have allot in store for you so be sure to subscribe!

Many have noticed that I am "back at youtube". That isn't really accurate tho. While I may not have been as active, I never really left. I was still watching videos, commenting and rating, etc. But I have started to upload videos again. You guys seem to like my long ones most. Go Figure! Get ready! I will be doing much more of that! The content will not be changing much. But there will be a few small changes. I like the idea that I am a old school Vlogger. I will be attempting to do other "entertaining videos" and plan to start a series on my philosophy "Karma~Zen". Some of my videos will be specific to where I post them. Others will be General in nature. So don't be surprised to see the same video in multiple places. I currently have accounts at Youtube (my home), Revver, & metacafe. There are some other sites I am also looking to get involved in as well.

Yes you will see alot of small changes. As always, I value your feedback. So Please feel free to tell me what your opinion is of any changes. That doesn't mean I will immediately change it. But, it's helpful in me deciding what "I" want to keep and change. So Off we go on this path for 2008! Walk with me.. Let's Talk.. and Learn.

Viral Video Gatherings

Hi Everyone!

It has been a very trying and very rewarding month for me. I had a wonderful time at the recent "South Tube Gathering" in Atlanta Georgia on the 22nd to 24th of Aug. Then came back and Hosted the "North Coast Vloggers Gathering" in Sandusky Ohio. I have to say that both were very rewarding emotionally and socially for me. AND.. Both were learning experiences. I may speak about that on the "A Zen Life" Podcast later.

Hmarty, TubeGranny, Lemonette, and many others worked very hard on SouthTube and it showed. I am telling ya.. these things need to be about a week long so you have the time to meet and greet all the wonderful vloggers there! The Marietta Convention Center was a perfect venue. There were very nice rooms, a Bar, Restaurant, Gift Shop, and party rooms to go with a very scenic view of the Golf Course. I don't think any of it went to waste with Vloggers around every corner. The Only real problems I had was with transportation and that was my own fault for not planning better. It was a GREAT Time!

Then.. The following weekend the Zen Live Radio Show Hosted a more intimate gathering in Sandusky Ohio. The North Coast Vloggers Gathering. These two events were as different as night and day. We CAMPED in Amish Built Cabins. Had planned both a Skating Party & an Evening at Cedar Point. The Turn out for North Coast was very small, but that was my fault for not giving enough lead time for people to plan. Still, We had a Great time, meeting and hanging out together. So much fun in fact that we have already set next years date for this Annual event. We will be holding the North Coast (Vloggers) Gathering on August 22nd Thru the 24th 2008. MARK IT DOWN NOW and START PLANNING.. You won't want to miss it!

What's It All Mean?

What does it all mean is a question I am asking myself today. The Question isn't about the Virginia Tech Killer or the Students who were his victims. No, It's about the growing role of internet on demand media.

With this Story we saw fast on the spot reporting of the events as they unfolded. Not just by traditional press like CNN, MSNBC, and Local News Broadcasts, but also by Bloggers and podcasters literally around the world. What we didn't see, interestingly enough was reports from the Students who were there at the "event". Yes, there was one student who pulled out his cell phone and took a few seconds of video. We saw THAT on national television.

But where was the Schools News Crew? Why is it we didn't see up to date YouTube Videos? Why wasn't a Stickam or Ustream member live and giving updates? Do you know why? Here's what I THINK..

THEY DIDN'T KNOW! Students were sent E-mails. This is true. But with technology what it is today, why in the world didn't the entire campus erupt in cell phone ring tones? Where were the INSTANT MESSAGES? Why weren't the Speakers across the campus sounding like the M*A*S*H PA Horns? " WARNING WOUNDED ARRIVING "

Could it possibly be in this world of Instant messages and Global communication, we don't think what happens in our "little part of the world" is important enough to share? Are we taking the power we have sitting on our desks, in our laps, in our pockets, and at our very fingertips for grated? Is it possible that We just don't understand the power of the tools we have and what it can mean to the world?

Certainly, the traditional media do. They can't wait to get online to embrace this new media for advertising. Web pages are so full of ads that they look like a New York Subway wall. Every radio station, television station, and Newspaper have a Dot Com today.

My Question isn't what can We do to change this... no.. My question is....

What Will YOU do? My Challenge to you is to get involved in reporting and sharing what happens in Your community however Big or Small and make a difference. The Only True Democracy is an Informed Democracy and You can make that a reality rather than a dream. Vlog, Blog, Podcast, ShoutCast and Contribute. What you have to say from Fact to Opinion is IMPORTANT & Needed.

A few changes are in the works...

I have taken a look at the show, the Blog, and Our Archives and noticed a few changes that I feel need to be made. I have noticed, for instace, that the Blog has become for all means and purposes a postmortem of the Radio Show for the most part and has taken a different direction that I had origionaly intended. We have an Archive Podcast that pretty much serves that purpose. So, to do it on the Blog is redundant. In the future, information about the show, links to websites talked about etc will be found on the "Zen Live Radio Review" Site. ( http://zenlive.podbean.com) Archives will still be available to listen too on a player at the Blog. You will also notice a player for the other podcasts I do under "The Balancing Act" heading... "BalancingAct Podcast" and "A Zen Life" Podcast.

Early on when I started the Zen Live Radio show, I thought it would be a GREAT Idea to do the show from my Personal Stickam Site. My friends would be find it easily and those on my list would know when the show was live. At that time.. it was a great idea. But things have changed. The line between ZenArcher, the person, and the Zen Live Radio show has become blurred. So.. We have created a Stickam profile specificly for the Zen Live Radio show "Zen_Live". I hope those interested in the show and keeping up on what we are doing with it will ADD Zen_Live to there friends list. The Zen Live Radio show also now has its own E-mail address ZenLiveRadio@gmail.com

Hopefully, the changes I am making will make things a little more organized and less redundant. The Blog will gradually get back to its original intended purpose. To muse over living life less stressed and happier.

Zen Live Radio - April 1st

The scheduled show was to be on "the changing face of media" but due to issues with my ISP and Skype we decided to reschedule and close early. In addition, there were connectivity problems with Tara916, who is currently in West Palm Beach Florida.

We did welcome our newest addition to the show "Lindsay". Play a Review by Tara916 of the movie " A Peaceful Warrior" that opened the weekend of Feb 30th-April 1st. (Note: We posted a link to get Free Tickets to the Opening Screening on the Profile).

Also of note was the Announcement of Google's new FREE Offer of Broadband Service that connected through your commode (toilet) which was of coarse an April fools joke. In addition, I announced that we would soon be on Sirius Radio channel 114 thanks to a new affiliate approval by Limetv.com. This was also our lil April Fools joke and was exposed as such in the last moments of the show.

All in all we had fun despite the problems, but did decide the best thing to do was reschedule the show for Sunday April 15th. We look forward to seeing you then!

The Secret was reviewed by Tara918, Euchre and, Myself (Zen Archer). Tara and I had both watched the DVD a number of times while Euchre gleaned what he could from the multitude of online videos about the DVD posted by the Producers of the DVD.

We all found the DVD interesting but were disappointed with the aggressive marketing campaign by the producers and TEACHERS of the "law of attraction". This "Secret" isn't a Secret at all. It's taught by many many a self help author and guidance consolers around the world. The first mention of the Law of Attraction originated in early 4000 BC by Hindu practitioners.

Still Tara and I both have had some personal experience with the law. The Second segment of the show was spent mostly on the law, what it is, and isn't. How it works, and why. We hope you enjoy this Pod of the show.

Tara916 and Euchre were both present in Audio since they couldn’t get into the room until the last few minutes of the show. There was also a much smaller LIVE Audience do to these Stickam problems.

As for the show itself, we started with a slide show that pointed to some of the reasons some believe that the Apollo 11 moon walk didn’t happen. Tara and Euchre did their homework and certainly brought up some valid points, as you will hear in this podcast.

This was our second show with the new set up and with the exception of some call-in problems & forgetting to start the archive on time, went very well. No Special guests, but a very verbose audience and that kept things light and fun. During Our breaks we played the music of both Jim Wayne and Lem from LiveVideo .com. Both songs had been featured on that site. I also mentioned that I have started a forum topic for users ranging from artist to techie to offer their work to the community for use or barter. Zen Live Show - Suspensions & Ban Lists

The show went great and was yet another of our best. The machine worked, pod was recorded, show shoutcast, topic well received and audience participation was top notch. We finally allowed calls into the show both through Skype and our call in skype phone number. I am Very Pleased with the result.

This Show was on the Suspensions at YouTube.com, LiveVideo.com & Stickam.com as well as the DMCA and Dealing with HATE on these services & the people who are involved in perpetuating this hate.

Argent009 was invited as a guest to explain his position, but he was for one reason or another not in attendance. One of the people Argent009 has identified as a “Terrorist” ( Argents word not mine ) came to the show to listen and was invited to phone in with his side. In Addition, Pipistrello ( of Wingspan Radio at Stickam & youtube member ) made a Skype call in to the show and spoke on the Anti-Hate method he purposed at Youtube called the R.I.D. Campaign.

Feb 11th Zen Live Radio - Global Warming & Green Living

The show on Global Warming and Green Living was by far our best show since we have been doing Zen Live Radio. The audience participation was above average with visitors listing facts, websites, and their own experiences. My co-hosts Tara916 and Euchre put hours into researching the topic and it showed in spades.

Unfortunity, the show had its problems. Even after re-cabling the entire set up, we still had a loud 60 cycle hmmmm. Since we couldn't do a skype conference we dropped back to using the stickam audio. This resulted in lag, however not as bad as we thought. The Shoutcast software did a great job broadcasting the show to both servers. However, due to a misplaced character, None of the Show was Archived. We only became aware of this after the show and too late to fix it. So, our best show is history.

One Last Note: There were some RUMORS flying around after the show that we had been "Attacked" during the show. Nothing could be father from the truth. We has a few people attempt to be disruptive, that's the internet and these things happen. We simply added them to ignore and went on with the show as usual. There was only 1 or 2 of these individuals and there was no significant impact on the show or its listeners.

Feb 4th - Youtube/LiveVideo & Making $ Online

While we had our share of problems, the show went great. The Stickam Audience got involved in the discussion, the Zipster stopped in and answered questions, the total audience has grown to over 140 people. I couldn't be more pleased. This was the 1st Zen Live Radio Show that was Shoutcast to Internet radio listeners and our 1st to be recorded for archive. The show was completely user supported. Music was provided by Notfromtoronto (Greg), the commercials provided by Wingspans Radio & KnockOutRadio, Hosting for the show provided by Stickam.com and Zefie hosting ( previously Rkuchki of youtube ). My Supporting co-hosts (Tara916 & Euchre) volunteered hours of time selflessly. Thanks to every one who has supported Zen Live Radio!

Exciting News ( for You and Us)

Hi Everyone!

Tara916, Euchre, and I have been working hard to bring you all a quality amateur radio show and I have to say I am very excited about where it is all going for us. Obviously, good things for us, means good things for you as a listener & friend.

We have ironed out most of the Big problems with providing the show to a large audience. Now in addition to the Stickam broadcast we are also shoutcasting from zenlive.listen2myradio.com and our own server at get-balanced.org (Zenlive at Get-balanced.org). In addition, shows will be Archived at zenlive.podbean.com with rss so you can subscribe and never miss a show again.

We have had great feedback and had a few people contact us about being on future shows. Friends of ours who also do shows have produced ad spots to air during our show and are playing our ads on theirs as well. ( see Friends of Zen Grid on my stickam profile)

Zen-Live Jan 27th Show -- The Anti Iraq War March

Over all the show went very well. Our guest & fellow YouTuber "Snype" was very articulate and you could hear the excitement in her voice as she told us about the Anti-Iraq War March on Washington DC ( Jan. 27 ) that was organized by United For Peace & Justice. Her cell phone interview from the day before came out fairly well and the Pictures she sent us were top notch.

It was a pleasure to have the interaction and discussion with our friends in the Stickam room as a special surprise that "Huckbets" ( at youtube )had also been to the rally and was kind enough to share her experiences and options on the march with us as well.

I could see that co-hosts Tara916 and Euchre had "done their homework" and brought other issues into the conversation. All in all, including the audience participation, the show was one of our best!

Last night Sunday Jan 14th was our first "Zen Live" Show. It certainly had it's set of problems. Starting with a muted mic for almost 5 minutes and the audience hearing NOTHING to multiple problems with skype conferences and call ins. Eventually we just fell back to my co-hosts Tara916, Euchre, and myself just using the stickam voice ( with lag ) to conduct the show. The topic was "technology - are we moving too fast" and "Video/Still Captures - the impact and responsibility to Internet users". All In all the discussion went well with the preponderance of the audience participating in text.

Greetings Everyone & Happy Holidays!
I am sure, many of you are wondering where I have been? It's been an interesting holiday season so far here. Family and friends have been over for the holiday feast and present exchanges, as is customary. That meant decorating, cleaning, and a good bit of cooking. That has taken up a substantial bit of time.

Now that the 1st of the seasons celebrations has past, it's time to get ready for the next, the New year.

The past year has been full of wondrous opportunities, new friends, and personal growth. I have indeed been blessed both in my personal life outside the computer and online. I am always amazed by life in general. But this has been quite a year! I found that sharing my philosophy with others gave me a much richer life as well. I have found other like minded individuals, people who were not only willing to listen to what I had to say but also act accordingly, and those who offer thanks for the perspective that was a little different than their own.

If I were asked to name one thing that made me happy this year it would have to be the community of people I was lucky enough to find on YouTube and Stickam. You Guys are Great and I thank you all for being friends & fans. You have made this year awesome!

So, whats next? I can only imagine. I can tell you what my plans are. On Youtube, I am planning to 1st catch up on some loose ends ( Zenbay & Tiny kites). I will be bringing back the "Ask Zen" series of videos and be doing more Meditative vlogs (as requested). Thanks to a new 2 Ghz computer I hope these will be better edited and presented. While the look maybe a little different, the message will remain the same. So, look forward to the new vlogs!

On Stickam, I am planning to be Live more often. After a recent message from, and phone conversation with Arron Novak followed by a live stickam conversation with Andyfox & Cj of Stickam, I am very excited about where Stickam is headed and the changes they are currently considering. The Invite to change my account to the new "creator account" was very nice. I am sure many of you were also contacted to do this. I immediately made a banner for Balancing Act and added it.

I had planned to buy a channel subscription to web radio Live365 and do a talk radio show. Now, Stickam has made it easier and even more affordable! So... Rather than be scattered all over the web, I will be doing the show from Stickam. I hope you will stop in and have a listen.

At Get-Balanced.org: Rook has extended his hosting offer for the following year, I have acquired some new software to create flash websites, and thanks to donations have set aside the money to pay for the domain for the next year when this one expires. You will see a richer more comprehensive site develop over the next year. The site will be the same as my vlogs in many ways. Suggestions for personal growth. So, I will be working hard to being you the best that i can there as well.

I hope you will all come by, take a look, and subscribe so you don't miss all of these improvements to Balancing Act. Share with me your experiences, hopes, dreams, and most of all friendship through the next year. It's gonna be AWESOME!

On Dec 6th 2006 ( my 50th Birthday ) I had a great party in my friend SubTzuBuddhas Stickam room. As always, I held with my trudition of being in my Birthday Suit for at least one hour for my birthday. Since Stickam is not a place for nudity, I desided to share my nakedness with everyone in a very special way. Yes, I said everyone on my friends list ( almost 400 people ) would receive a nice pic of.... my penis. ( some were not exactly happy at the promis ) Since I wasn't sure how to send the pic in a Stickam mail post. I desided rather than have my friends miss such a rare event. Hi Everyone!

I had mentioned to a few of you that there "maybe" and article in a news paper featuring me and some photos of me. I am sad to say that I got the following from the photographer today at 10:45 a.m.

Zen, might as well keep using your screen name...True to form, the story has been delayed, so it will not be running this Sunday after all. Also, there might be undergoing major revisions, which may push up or down the significance of our photo. I tend to think that the photo will survive any changes because video on the internet is a huge battleground for companies like YouTube and Google. Sorry about these convulsions. It unfortunately can happen with these big projects.

I replies that I was a little disappointed, but understood these things can happen. Perhaps, the Photos will be useful in the future article.

So.. Don't go running out to get the paper... I probably will not be there.

Great NEWS - well for me anyway..

Hi Everyone!

This has been an exciting day for me for sure. Some of you answered my bulletin calling for people from Chicago recently. Those who have, already know what it was all about. A news paper in Chicago is doing a news story on YouTube and the users of the service. I was contacted and asked to be part of that interview and to have some photos taken for the paper. I origionaly declined, as I believed that my recent contract with a new website would exclude me from doing such a thing. I offered to assit in finding people in the area, whom I knew of, for them to look at as an alternative. So, I posted that bulletin for all my friends to see. Apparently the paper did contact someone and for some unknown reason are not able to get in contact with them. They in turn asked me to try to contact this person and my attempts were unsuccessful. I wrote back and told them, I had also tried.

Well.. today, I spoke with the (as of yet undisclosed) company I have contracted with and they asure me there would be no problems. I figured.. SURE! now you tell me! haha! I didn't think much more of it. However, as things sometimes seem work, for no apparent rhyme or reason, I got yet another call. From the News Paper! Seems they are pushed for the story and wanted to ask me again, if I was sure.

I explained that I had spoken with "the powers that be" and they said there would be no problem. As a result, I could do the interview & photo shoot. They said they would be in contact with me later today.. and I could expect to see them either Wednesday or Thursday. So.. right now it is looking as if I will be on the pages of the paper. How cool is that!

Here's an other little something extra...

There has been alot of talk on YouTube about vlogers accepting donations from those who watch them. I have vlogged on it myself. My view is, if someone is putting their time and energy into vlogging and others want to donate to the entertainment they get from these people, then I see no reason why that shouldn't happen.

However, YouTube Terms of Service excludes such things on the YouTube Site. If you watch my vlogs, especialy the one on the Terms of Service agreement on YouTube, You know that I try to follow it. in addition, YouTube pages are not customizable enough to put a donation button up. So, doing so on the YouTube Site, can't and shouldn't happen.

I have however, made the button available here for those who would like to use it. ( no one should feel ANY obligation to do so ) I am actualy, just testing the button out here. It will eventualy be moved to my own website. But at least for the time being you will find it here, just below the Blogger Icon in the sidebar.

As many of you know, I recently Did a Joke Vlog about "starting a new religion". In that vlog I said we needed a Logo or Symbol. While I was only joking, endust3 almost immediately met the call with a new logo. I liked it alot. The Logo encompasses a number of recognisable symbols, including a yin-yang, a fish, & an Ank Cross. Since my philosophy of Karma-Zen is very much like that (barrowing from multiple inspirations) I thought it was a good logo to actualy use. I liked it so much that I have added it to a couple of items at the Balancing Act cafepress Gift Shop (http://www.cafepress.com/BalancingAct)

So as you can see.. it's been a busy and exciting day!

Cyber Cops & Real Life Criminals..

Good morning, afternoon, or evening, as the case maybe in your part of the world. It’s morning here. About 15 minutes before 8am. I am having a morning cup of coffee, my 1st few smokes and watching the news.
One particular story drew my attention. Seems a young girl (High School Age) had been jumped at her school by 3 or 4 girls. Just another say in paradise, I thought. BUT…these unknown girls made a huge mistake. You see they had a problem with the girl who was jumped due to her “MYSPACE “ page. Once they had committed the crime against her.. They bragged about what they had done.. Guess Where? YEP! MySpace! The girl saw this, contacted her local police who then requested the information from MySpace. Who of corse complied. End of the Story? All of the girls who had committed the crime have been arrested.

So.. I thought to myself.. Well GOOD! When I contacted outside sorces regarding an incident. MANY said, “no one can do anything except the service”. Guess again folks! Yep its nice to see these services comply with requests for information when it involves a criminal case. The Steps are clear. Notify local authorities, and a lawyer. Lawyers can often help to push police to action and usually will do the initial leg work to get things moving. Law Enforcement will then make requests when they are aware a criminal act is in fact taking place. These people who commit these crimes often feel untouchable because they are on the web. Slowly they are getting the message. They are in fact more vulnerable than the victims they pursue.

The Incident I mentioned isn’t the 1st time MySpace has been helpful to law enforcement. In addition graffitti artists ( known as taggers) have also been discovered on services like MySpace. I am providing 2 links below. The 1st is a report of 3 or 4 taggers, averaging age 17, being arrested and paying fines for the property damage they had created. My point here isn’t that Taggers are good or bad.. But that the law in many areas have officers dedicated to finding clues and individuals thorugh the internet. It isn’t just the cases of child molesters. It’s for much lesser crimes. I for one think that’s great!
How often does that really happen, skeptics may ask.. The answer is in this exert from Walking a new beat by MSNBC. “MySpace now contributing to about 150 investigations a month, according to Jason Feffer, its vice president for operations.”
